Spalted Aspen Coffee Table
Spalting is the pattern formed by fungus as it grows through rotting wood. Because aspen is quite soft the fungus can grow faster and produces more pronounced patterns than the more commonly used spalted maple.This table shows an inverted tripod leg in maple.Because Aspen is quite a soft wood I had to use a lot of wood hardener make it functional as a piece of furniture. The final finish is water based polyurethane.
